  • Ubiquiti Unifi US-8-60W 5.1 firmware update

    Ubiquiti Unifi US-8-60W 5.1 firmware update

    Vigyázat, angol és technikai bejegyzés lesz.

    If your switch (in my case a Unifi Switch 8 POE-60W) came with firmware 5.1.x pre-installed, you need to follow the steps below to prevent having lots of error messages when you set automatic updates on.

    firmware check failed

    Firmware 5.1 is a beta and it can’t be downgraded directly to the 4.x stable firmware. First you have to upgrade to 5.29 or later beta, which can be downgraded to the stable branch. To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. First Sign up for early access.
    2. Try and open the link: https://community.ui.com/releases/UAP-USW-Firmware-5-35-0-12205/c1173974-1052-4384-a720-bc0694be09a1. In case you get a 404, click sign in.
    3. If step 1 takes a while or you can’t sign up for the early access, you can copy and paste the link to the .bin directly: https://dl.ui.com/unifi/firmware/US24P250/5.35.0.12205/US.bcm5334x_5.35.0+12205.200903.0449.bin
    4. Open Unifi network GUI, select your switch and under config tab select “custom upgrade”. Paste the link from previous step. (automatic upgrades has to be off to be able to do custom upgrade)
    5. After the upgrade, repeat step 4 with the latest stable firmware you can find at: https://www.ui.com/download/unifi-switching-routing/unifi-switch-8-60w/us-8-60w/unifi-firmware-4321-us-8162448w.
    6. Enable automatic upgrades.

    Step 5 might not be needed, after step 4 was finished and the switch rebooted a downgrade button appeared.

    downgrade to 4.3.x

    Don’t forget step 6. Enable automatic updates. Step back, relax and enjoy the network.

  • WordPress Twenty Ninteen + Disqus tweak

    WordPress Twenty Ninteen + Disqus tweak

    Just switched to the newly released Twenty Nineteen theme by WordPress. It’s a very pure theme, with nothing extra. But it works fine with the new editor released with WordPress version 5.

    I’ve been using Disqus as my comment engine for a while, but Twenty Nineteen didn’t handle the comment section as it supposed to do. So I’ve found a great CSS tweak to make Disqus visually aligned to the theme.

    div#disqus_thread {
    padding: 3% 10%;
    background-color: white;
    margin: 3% 0;
    box-shadow: 0 0 1px rgba(0,0,0,0.15);
    }
    @media screen and (min-width: 38.75em) {
    div#disqus_thread {
    margin: 3% 7.6923%;
    }
    }
    @media screen and (min-width: 59.6875em) {
    div#disqus_thread {
    margin: 3% 8.3333%;
    }
    }
    Go to Customize your theme. Copy and paste it to the Additional CSS section.

    Found at Alex Dresko.  He posted it as a tweak for the Twenty Fifteen theme, but works for the Twenty Nineteen, too.

    You can find this quote at brilliant.org. An addictive website with great ideas and daily tasks. The photo is from last year’s Telenor Smartphone Academy, where I talked about using smartphones in education.

    Don’t forget this quote over the next school year.

  • Carpool Karaoke

    The first carpool karaoke video I’ve seen was the one with Adele. I love her songs, but never knew, she’s so funny and cool. These carpool videos show the true character of the guests.

    2 days ago James Corden just posted a new video with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the car. After the first 20 seconds of the video, I hit the subscribe button. I don’t want to miss the next episode.

    James Corden is a genius and the guests are awesome, too. At leaset the last 2 were. 🙂

  • Fly Toledo Zip Line

    We spent the last week in Talavera de la Reina as part of an Erasmus+ project (website not yet finished).  Since Talavera is close to Toledo, we visited the beautiful city. As we found out, that Fly Toledo is supposed to be the longest zip line in Europe, we had to try it. I’m not sure, whether it is still the longest in Europe, but it is the best located zip line for sure.

    Yes, it was scary first. But we got discount for a second ride, when I didn’t leave my camera behind. See the video below.

  • 15 awesome ski and snowboard movies

    Winter X Games 2016 is on. It’s half term in Hungary. Which means a few days off school for skiing and snowboarding. I collected a few great movie trailers to get in the mood for riding. The Art of Flight is an all time favourite.

    Hit next to watch the other 14 trailers.

  • future of the music industry

    future of the music industry

    Many musicians realized the change of the music business. Jay Z started Tidal, De La Soul tries another approach. I prefer the latter one, although I subscribed to Tidal to give it a try as well. I already backed De La Soul’s new album on Kickstarter.

    The music business is changing. We need collaboration between fans and bands. This is the future of the music industry. We really don’t need any labels to get involved. – De La Soul on Kickstarter

  • This will revolutionize Education

    This will revolutionize Education

    As you already know after watching the video above, that learning with words and pictures together can be more effective. So I added some quotes from the video to help you learn these. 🙂

    Why do we need teachers?

    Well if you think, that the fundamental job of a teacher is to transfer information from their heads to their students’, then you are right they are obsolete.

    Technology isn’t there to replace the teacher. And teacher aren’t there to be an ancient replica of a computer which delivers information.

    Luckily the fundamental role of a teacher is not to deliver informations. It is to guide the social process of learning. The job of a teacher is to inspire, to challenge, to excite students to want to learn.

    (…) The most important thing a teacher does is to make every student feel like they are important.

    Using technology in the classroom is Evolution not Revolution. As teachers we have to be able to use technology, but this is not changing our fundamental role, to challenge and inspire. Even more. With the technology, we may be able to inspire more students.

    And a final quote from the video:

    And making a learner think is best achieved in a social environment with other learners and a caring teacher.
